ILLAWARRA WANGANUI SECTION COMPETITION
WANGANUI CUP
Rules of the two person format
1. Each team on the day consists of 2 players
2. Play consists of 4 full tie break sets. First set to be doubles, second & third to be singles, with each player in the team playing one singles each. Fourth set to be doubles. The order of play can vary with agreement of both teams.
3. Visiting team shall nominate the first singles to be played. Ie No1 or No2 seed.
4. Each team shall seed their players for singles on the entry form and may only be varied at the end of the first round (match 5) and prior to the second round (match 6) commencing (the competition secretary must be advised of any changes to players seeding)
5. Each team can register up to a maximum of 5 players. Teams can register players after round 1. However, the grading committee has the right to reject a late nomination should it be deemed that the registration is too strong for the grade. (or strengthens the team, ie is stronger than any players in that team). Any late registrations should be notified to the competition secretary prior to the match.
6. 1 day transfers are allowed from a team of the same grade or lower within the Wanganui Cup and will play as the second seed. Note that such transfers are allowed in a maximum of 2 times per competition
7. The home team must supply at least 3 new ATP-approved balls for the match.
8. Play is to commence at 8.30am and a 5 minute hit-up is permitted prior to the first set. Should a team be unable to field a pair by 8.35 the first set can be claimed by the opposition. Should a pair not be available by 8.45am the whole match is forfeited. Play is to terminate at 10.30am unless the court owner agrees to further play, with the agreement of both team captains.
9. 6 points are awarded for each match. The winner of each set receives 1 point, with the winner of the match receiving 2 points. The winner of the match is the team which has won the most sets. If sets are equal the winner is determined by the team which has the most games. If games are equal then a draw occurs. Unfinished set are awarded half a point to each team
10. At the end of the rounds the first 4 teams with the highest amount of points play the semi finals. (No1 vs No4 and No2 vs No3) Winners of each semi-final ILLAWARRA WANGANUI SECTION COMPETITION play in the final. If the team coming No1 finished ahead by 6 or more points after the rounds, they reserve the right to challenge the winner of the final if they have lost in the semi final or final. A player must have played in 3 matches during the rounds on divisions with no BYEs or 2 matches on divisions where there is a BYE to be eligible to compete in the semi’s & finals.
11. In unfinished matches or sets, the final score will be determined by the total of sets and games played and won by each time at the time of the interruption. If a match does not start due to wet conditions, the points are to be shared equally by both teams. Note that the home team has the responsibility to advise the result to the organisation committee, under the penalty of losing its winning point in case the notice is not made within the agreed time frames.
12. Prior to the commencement of the first set, the teams toss for order of serve, with the team serving first in the first and third sets and the team receiving in the first set, serving first in the second and fourth sets. On semi-finals and finals matches, the teams will toss for home and away first, then toss for first serve.
13. The result for semi-finals, finals and challenges matches must be decided on the day. In case of a time in sets and games after the regular four sets are played, a doubles “super tie-breaker” up to ten points is to be played. The winner will be the team who reach ten points or more with a difference of two points.
14. Results are to be informed to the organisation committee by the winning team or the home team in case of a wet match by no later than 19:00 of the day following the match, in this case Monday. The non-observance of this requirement will attract a penalty of the winning points of the team responsible for the notice.
